On United Nations World Mangrove Day, 26 July 2022, we launched a mangrove restoration project in The Gambia in partnership with Worldview The Gambia.
Since 2015, Worldview The Gambia has planted 10,000 mangrove trees along the Banjul coast — and the affected areas have seen a drastic improvement in local wildlife.
Mangroves form a living bio-shield for coastal communities: they protect against storms, filter pollutants and shelter nurseries for marine life, while storing carbon in their soils for centuries.
