Mangroves & blue carbon
Mangroves are the engine of our blue carbon work. They store far more carbon than terrestrial forests — most of it locked permanently in the soil beneath their roots — while forming a living bio-shield that protects coastal communities from storms and erosion.
The Thor Heyerdahl Climate Parks honour the Norwegian explorer and environmentalist — a founding member and long-time Vice President of our partner Worldview International Foundation. Alongside EcoFriend World, we are honouring that legacy with new mangrove parks.

Track record — 2007 to 2026
Our India team’s roots go deeper still — from FAO bee-keeping programmes in 1999 to India’s first community carbon REDD+ project in the Khasi Hills, spring mapping, climate-resilient paddy conservation and World Bank-supported landscape work.
- 2007Training for India’s first community carbon REDD+ project in the Khasi Hills, Meghalaya — 27,000 ha, certified by Plan Vivo.
- 2008Worldview Impact Foundation was established as a non-profit international organization based in the United Kingdom with a mission to making an impact at the grassroots to create positive changes.
- 2009Launched Worldview Impact India and started an agroforestry project in the Ri Bhoi District of Meghalaya in northeast India to create sustainable livelihoods for rural communities living on the border near the state of Assam
- 2010Launched the Carbon Neutral Dance project with Karen David and Shooters Hill School under the mentorship of King's College students to engage young people in the UK to reduce their carbon footprint by learning dance footsteps and planting trees in India and Sri Lanka.
- 2011Launched a student mentoring project at Richmond Park Academy for training students to run a social enterprise of importing green organic tea from Paradise Farm in Sri Lanka and selling the product to fellow students and shops around the school campus.
- 2012Green Apprentice Programme launched at the UN Rio+20 Conference in Brazil with Big World Impact UK.
- 2013Global Alert platform launched with Ocean Recovery Alliance to map plastic pollution in rivers and oceans.
- 2014Mangrove restoration begins at Thor Heyerdahl Climate Park, Myanmar — 1 billion trees by 2030.
- 2015Worldview Impact Explorer and Ride East agro-ecotourism expeditions launched in North East India.
- 2016Launch of campaign to develop cross-sector strategies for sustainable tourism to mitigate climate change and combat desertification in arid environments in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism at the UN COP22 Climate Change Conference in Marrakesh, in conjunction with the Moroccan "Vision 2020" program and in preparation of the United Nations International Year 2017 of Sustainable Tourism for Development.
- 2017Drone tree-mapping and planting in Myanmar’s delta, funded by GHR Foundation ($242,800) with Biocarbon Engineering.
- 2018Launch of 360 Degrees Entrepreneurship project that aims to develop youth workers skills on entrepreneurship and in particular social entrepreneurship, creativity, financial management, strategic planning, employability, and entrepreneurial skills in order to overcome youth unemployment and to make NGOs sustainable.
- 2019i2 SustainIT impact incubator launched, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
- 2020Launch of the 'Collective Innovation to Fight Climate Change' project with a vision to support the successor of the European Cooperation in Education and Training (ET2020) for more ambitious benchmarks for adult education and for a more social and sustainable future, where adult education can play a central role in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and combating climate change.
